CHRISTMAS COMES TO GERARD MCCABE

Christmas is one of our favourite times of the year at Gerard McCabe. The feeling of excitement in the air. The joy of buying presents for loved ones. The magic of spending time with family.

Here at Gerard McCabe, we love Christmas and our window displays. We are excited to have launched our windows for Christmas 2015. A stunning creation capturing the spirit of Christmas and delighting our customers.

Our 2015 window display is based upon the classic Christmas song "The 12 Days of Christmas". The pears are inspired by the line within the song "... and a partridge in a pear tree'.

Our talented designer Niki shares with us some of the insight into her creation.

When I design a piece I start with my window mock-up to get the proportions right as the arcade and mall stores are so different in size.

Both our Adelaide Arcade and Rundle Mall stores are located within the heart of the Adelaide CBD. We wanted to engage and delight passers-by and inspire those looking for Christmas gifts. In total, there were 5 extra large, 5 large, 10 medium and 12 small pears. Plus, the 21 pears in the tree in the windows of our Rundle Mall store. In our Adelaide Arcade store windows, there are 34 pears, 27 in our feature tree as well as 3 ornaments.

The entire display was a labour of love for Niki, creating each delicate aspect by hand. Each section showed careful attention to detail to charm and delight the passers-by. To add to the Christmas magic, over 3kg of glitter was used within the display. This is enough to supply a children's fairy shop for a year.

Niki’s attention to detail reflects the work ethic of Gerard McCabe Jewellers. With the same care taken at each step of the design of our elegant pieces, the process took over 120 hours of skilled preparation, evolving and growing into these stunning festive scenes.

The design evolves as I go along, such as adding the red pear as a feature item. Sometimes it's a matter of trial and error because although I have the full image in my head, until it becomes 3D, the two can be different.

The final breathtaking result was revealed before the Adelaide Christmas Pageant. This coincided with the beginning of the festive season.

If you are in the city come, why not come in and see it in person?
