GERARD'S CHOICE: ANTIQUE VICTORIAN BROOCH

Antique Posted by Gerard McCabe on 04/06/2019

Gerard McCabe was born with a passion for great design and timeless jewellery. As a discerning collector, the ever-growing collection of antique jewellery is one of the best in Australia, featuring stunning pieces from the Victorian, Edwardian, Art Nouveau and Art Deco periods.

The Victorian era saw the birth of feminine, delicate designs, with an emphasis on filigree gold. Key symbols included heart, flowers, lovebirds, ivy, knots, bows and snakes. After Prince Albert’s death, the jewellery took a turn for the more sombre designs. Pieces comprising onyx or jet became popular, and designs became larger and chunkier.

In our latest release of Antique & Period jewellery, Gerard has an Antique Victorian Brooch. Crafted in 15ct yellow gold, the exceptional piece is reminiscent of the early Victorian era. With 24 individual glistening diamonds, complemented by the natural pearls and imperial pink, gold topaz and aquamarine. The coloured gemstones used are beautifully enhanced by the pearl and diamond additions, making for a radiant and captivating Victorian brooch.
