Two Decades of Kaleidoscope

The Kaleidoscope collection was born from a fascination with the full spectrum of colours found in nature. Inspired by rainbows, wildflowers and exotic butterflies, the collection brings together vibrant natural sapphires to create a dazzling kaleidoscopic effect.

For 20 years, Kaleidoscope has been an iconic Gerard McCabe collection. Justin explains: “Kaleidoscope has always been about celebrating nature’s full spectrum of colours available in vivid sapphires.”

The collection’s earlier designs traditionally used an illusion setting, allowing the colours of the sapphires to flow seamlessly from one gemstone to the next.

While the spirit of Kaleidoscope remains unchanged, its latest designs introduce a fresh approach to showcasing natural sapphires, which Justin says, “Takes it to a whole new level.”

A New Era of Kaleidoscope

The latest Kaleidoscope designs bring together natural sapphires in an array of vibrant colours, arranged in intricate geometric patterns and precision settings.

Unlike traditional claw settings, the gemstones are positioned closely together to create a fluid, uninterrupted display of colour. The result is a striking architectural effect, where each individual sapphire contributes to the overall kaleidoscopic composition.

“We’ve been working hard behind the scenes on creating new designs that really showcase this wonderful spectrum of sapphires in the best way possible,” says Justin.

Behind each piece is an extensive process of stone selection and meticulous manufacture. Each design takes weeks to bring to life, with natural sapphires carefully considered for their colour, cut and individual character before being set into the finished piece.

“Each piece takes weeks for stone selection and manufacture in a complex, precision setting. It’s a decadent, geometrical layout that becomes luxury jewellery.” - Justin McCabe.

The result is a collection that celebrates both the individuality of each natural sapphire and the impact created when they are brought together. The new collection includes a stunning pendant, ring, earrings, bangle and bracelet, each crafted in 18k gold for a luxurious finish.

The Kaleidoscope Pendant

Among the new designs, one piece stands out as a particular favourite for Justin: the Kaleidoscope pendant.
In Justin’s own words, “Whilst I think every single design that we’ve come up with is iconic, I think the pendant is something that really stands out to me.” 

Featuring a full spectrum of colourful sapphires arranged in a circular design, the pendant combines princess cut and baguette cut sapphires with minimalist claw settings.
